  1. 1. I agree that an outsider can be defined as someone who is different, unconfomed.
    2. I hadn't really thought about the idea that no one tries to get to know the outsider until Matthew brought it up. Its such an obvious idea, but at the same time, its unacceptable, thats not how things should be.
    3. Is society always wrong? Every group, no matter how small or how large, comes together with basic ideals, yes, you shouldnt let someone tell you how you should look, and feel, but when it comes to actions, they affect everyone in that society, so, that being said, is society completely wrong to give off standards?
    4. Society affects our lives a lot and the way we are raised and our influeneces help to determine who we are as individuals.

    1. I agree that society can affect the way you make your self look or feel or even the actions that you do. I also agree with the fact that an outsider isnt just excepted but i think that people/society should give them a chance at least unless they are a bad person or have done something bad in the past.

    2. I had not thought about the outsider never getting "known" by others, either.

    3. I also never thought about how nobody tries to get to know outsiders.

  2. i agreed with what abby had to say about what defines an outcast. I thought that it was someone who didn't fit in and had different opinions or values. i hadn't thought about how your actions have a tendancy to assign your label and make you who you are. A question i had during the disccusion was how dolabels make you act different. and my big take away would be that people have high expectations and if you don't meet those expectations then you are different, an outcast, a wierdo.

    1. I agree with your takeout. It is human nature to try to "conform" (that is why we yawn when we see others yawn, or start freaking out when others do). To live up to others expectations is a tedious task, and if it isn't done, you are different.

    2. I agree with Samantha. If someone doesn't dress the same or do the same thing they are considered uncool or different. We should just except who they are and help them embrace how they are different.

    3. I definitely agree with the fact that if you are different from what someone thinks is normal, then that person will label you as an outcast.

    4. I agree that you agree with me, and society can do whatever they want but i will always be proud to be a weirdo.

  3. 1. I agreed on the fact that the people you live with and hangout with influence who you are, because they can change a lot about you.
2.The idea I will have to consider si that you can define how you can be defined, because I hadn't really thought about that.
    3. A question I had was: Can how someone stereotypes you follow you after High School?
My takeaway, was that the majority of us all had the same views; especially on the fact that the main characters of both of our books were outcasts.

    1. I think that you can be stereotyped after you leave high school, becuase, even though you have left high school and that judgement, theres still others out there judgeing you for every little think, and that leads to stereotyping.

  4. An idea from the discussion that I agreed with was that you can be defined by everything; you are defined by events around the world, people, and decisions that you make. However, you have the choice decide how you are defined. You can decide how to let it affect you.
I had not considered the possibility of you being able to change yourself so drastically at random, because I don’t think you can. I do think that you can change parts of yourself, but it takes time. You can have “life changing” events happen to you, but it still takes time for you to process those and change yourself.
A question that I had during the discussion, was what if you do give in to peer pressure? It happens to most of us at some point in our lives, but how do you get away from that?
My big takeaway was that most everyone in the class agreed with the fact that your environment and your experiences have dramatic effects on you and your life. They help to shape who you are and the way that you view life.

  5. 1. I agree that people around you can help influence who you are.
2.I do consider the idea that you can change your stereotype and/or your opinion about it.
3.What type of influence does your rolemodel give you and why?
    4. My big takeaway was that you can define who you are.The way you are can change others behavior and influences in life. They can change peer pressure which can cause choices either negative or positive.

  6. 1. I agree with the idea that if you get labled over and over on the same thing you honestly tend to belive it.
    2. An idea to consider is that everything you do does define you, but, YOU can choose who you want to be.
    3. A question that really got to me was: "Are you trying to live up to societies expectations?".
    4. We mostly talked about how we live up life and try to become more of someone else then who we are. how we are trying to live up the expectations and be perfect, but noone is perfect.
