  1. What do you think of the ten more lies they tell you in high school on page 148? What ones do you think were right? What ones do you think where wrong? What is your opinion?

    1. I think all of these are lies except for having your driving privilege taken away. When they are said they may be meant as true, but it just doesn't end up happening in the end. It would be easier to do things such as enforce the dress code in a smaller school such as ours, but not in a larger one such as Melinda's.

    2. I think all of them were accurate, especially around here. My favorite was 9. Our bus drivers are highly trained professionals. I find it funny because it's a tremendous lie; our bus drivers in my experience are just cranky, ridiculous rule enforcers who will stop the bus if someone's foot is out in the aisle.

    3. I agree with numbers one through eight. The ones that I don't agree with are numbers nine and ten. There really is nothing wrong with summer school. It is useful to those who need it, and you can get quite a bit done. For number ten, If I was Melinda, i would probably say that, but speaking as myself, I would not. The teachers at Meadows Valley do want to hear what wwe have to say.

    4. Misti, I agree, because both rules are definitely enforced here.

    5. I agree on the bus driver..they may have a license to drive a bus..but usually they are just really cranky and mean..but it is for our safety i guess. I don't know how a foot in the aisle is going to hurt anybody though. And number 9...everything is wrong with summer school!!!

    6. Greg I partially disagree with the summer school one, only because even though it may actually help you, no one wants to go to summer school and I know that if I was forced to go, I would definitely think there were a lot of things wrong with it. mainly that it was wasting the valuable short amount of freedom that I had.

    7. None of those "lies" are things that anyone can completely promise or control for sure, so they are doomed from the start, including the qualifications and disposition of the said "highly trained" bus driving professionals. Therefore, people probably shouldn't make these libelous (look it up) statements in the first place.

    8. I was forced to go to summer school in like 3rd grade!! I had some of the best grades in the class!! it was my sister who was supposed to go but they put me down instead and they didn't change it! So i was forced to go or i would have to take the grade over again.

    9. I agree. They weren't meant as a lie, or else they never would have been said in the first place. They just kind of ended up as a "broken promise".

    10. I agree with Misti on the summer school one. And Greg, I think that the teachers here are great, but for some, if what you have to say isn't agreeing with them sometimes, then 10 is a lie.

    11. For summer school, i am not saying that people like it. THis summer, I volunteered as a tutor at summer school. I hated getting up at 7:30 am, and riding my bike three miles to school every morning. It was not pleasant. I am saying that it is helpful. I saw kids who could not understand anything about math at the beginning, to kids who could teach that same stuff back to me by the end. It may not be fun, but it is helpful.

    12. That is true Emily. As a teacher it is kind of your duty to listen to your students, but why would you if it interrupted something or didn't go along with what you thought was right?

  2. Why do you think Ivy all of a sudden started to befriend Melinda again? (P. 146) After Mel and Ivy became closer later on, if you were in Mel's position, would you have told Ivy what happened? (P. 162)

    1. I wouldn't tell her..i would be to embarrassed and ashamed. maybe ivy never knew her before and that's why she started to be friends with her..i also think of ivy as maybe an outcast and maybe they have something in common.

    2. I think Ivy started to befriend Melinda because she really didn't have a good reason to hate her. She may have been at the party, but anyone smart enough, or willing enough, could see that something very bad and wrong must have happened to Mel. I also think that she didn't think that Melinda was really a bad person like most other people seemed to think. If I was in Melinda's position I don't really think I would jump right into telling Ivy because it is really hard to let something like that out into the open that soon after the incident. Melinda needed to really build trust and to face the ffact that it happened and become strong enough to deal with it to the best of her ability.

    3. Sam, I kind of disagree, because I think that Mel and Ivy used to be really close. I could be wrong, but I think if I were Melinda, I would want to get it off my chest.

    4. I see where you're coming from emily. its would be a heavy burden to bare but i wouldn't be able to tell somebody that i recently met.

    5. Misti, I think you're right, actually. I still would want to get it off my chest, but with Mel and Ivy just getting back into the groove of their friendship, it would be really hard to tell her. And the not having a good enough reason to hate her was what I was thinking too.

    6. Yes. You would want so badly to get it off your chest, but it would be really hard to face it. After some time it would be easier, and you would be more willing.

    7. True Sam, but Mel also told Rachelle/Rachel over a note, even when she thought Rachelle/Rachel hated her.

    8. Emily, I think that is because they used to be like sisters. They were the best of friends and she still missed Rachel as a friend even if Rachel wasn't on the "Melinda band wagon" at the moment. She didn't have a reason not to trust Rachel and she still cared about her. Also she was trying to look out for her.

    9. But they used to be great friends... and maybe she wanted to tell her that she was raped by Andy so the same thing wouldn't happen to her friend Rachelle/Rachel

      Delete
    10. I suppose you are both right there, but if I thought someone hated me that wouldn't be the first thing I'd do. I would probably build up the friendship a little and then wait until Andy was a threat and THEN tell her so there was a better chance of Rachel believing her.

    11. No matter what something like that is terribly hard to tell someone especially when you were alone through all of it and no have someone trying to come in? That's a scary idea, she sees it as her giving someone the chance to hurt her again... trust is something very hard to gain.

      Delete
    12. That is true. It would be hard. I think by that point Melinda may have gotten tired of keeping it all to herself. I think also, that she wanted to avoid the trouble between Rachel and Andy before it even started

      Delete
    13. Yes, Misti i agree.. and at the same time she's afraid that Andy might do something rash and hurt her

  3. I agree with with Kalie and Misti
