Melinda updates us on her “report card” at the end of every
term. Look back at her first term
report (p. 46) her second term report (p. 92) and now her third term report (p.
137).
PART I: Comment
on this post. How have her report
cards changed? What “grades” have
gone down/up/stayed the same and why?
Why do you think she gives herself “grades” in Social Life, Lunch, and
Clothes? Do you think she’s honest
about the grades she gives herself?

PART II: Turn
in to the box. Make your own
“REPORT CARD” like Melinda. You
can use actually classes you have, or classes you wish your had, or parts of
school life that are not included in academics (like Melinda’s Social Life,
Lunch, Clothes). You do not have
to list your actual grades, but rather the grades you feel you have or that the
classes themselves deserve. Keep
in mind these grades apply to general subject areas, not specific teacher’s
classes at the school. At the
bottom of your report card, provide some analysis about what this report says
about you. What is your highest
grade and why? Lowest? Why did you choose the extra parts of
school life to include in your report card?

I think she gives herself life grades because she wants to express her social link in life. she is trying to say what she thinks of herself and how she is becoming more negative in those categories. From the first report card to the secong report card nothing really changed. All of her social ones did because she is being to harsh on herself. but only social studies went down a letter grade. and her social grades just get worse in the third report card along with her school grades..But art always stays the same
ReplyDeleteBesides art, and the grades she gives herself (which are ever-changing), her grades in her other classes plummet more and more each marking period, except for in art where she maintains her A. I think this is because she has given up almost completely because she is so preoccupied with her lack of friends and Andy Evan walking the halls. I think she is only keeping her grade up in art because her teacher believes that she has better potential than what she is putting forward. I also think the grades she gives herself are accurate in her mind because she has no friends to tell her otherwise.
ReplyDeletePart 1. Her grades have changed. From her first report card to her second, her grades either stayed the same or went up except her attitude and socail studies which have decreased. But then they all changed jurasticly into very poor grades. They have probably decreased due to the fact she has seen her sexual harasser, loss of friends, and teachers. I think the reason she grades herself on social life and clothing is to decided how she can improve her skills in those subjects.
ReplyDeleteI think Melinda gives herself grades on Social Life, Lunch, and Clothes because she wants to show how she sees herself compared to others, and to express her “social status” at Merryweather High. Not much changes in her report cards from the first marking period to the second, except her attitude. I think this is because she is becoming more hostile towards others. All of her classroom grades stay within the same letter grade and Art is the only thing that she has an A in. I think this is because she feels like she can actually express her feelings in art, and she cannot any other way. Her third marking period report card, however, gets much more negative. Almost all of her grades have dropped except for lunch and art. I think this is because she is kind of giving up and be extremely negative towards herself.
ReplyDelete2. I believe that Melinda gives herself grades on Social Life, Lunch, and Clothes because she realizes the way she presents herself and she doesn’t get better... Her attitude goes a little bit down and I think this is because she’s pushing herself further and further away from people… Putting herself in a hole. Art appears to be her "safe room" where she can just get away and actually focus fully on something. To top it all off, her third marking period goes a bit angry, you could say. She stops trying, gives up more than she already had... She distance herself more than she did at first. She’s depressed and has no one to help her...

DeleteMelinda’s grades start our quite fair, it seems like she isn’t being too nice to herself; Melinda judges herself by grading her clothing, attitude, and lunch popularity. By the second term her attitude has gone down her lunch has become one grade better and her clothes grade is worse. Melinda’s actual grades seem to go down, except for art, A. Third term Melinda is down in the poops, all of her grades are F’s and D’s except for art, A. Melinda is giving herself grades on social life, lunch and clothes because she is depressed and she feels like it’s necessary to judge herself; that’s how I felt. I think she is too hard on herself on certain topics. I think that Melinda dressed like the normal teenager. Melinda’s Social life was depressing and her lunch period wasn’t the best.
